Happenings: Week of October 13th

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Now that you've filled up on turducken or the like, look forward to a short weekend and this opening on Saturday.

Bau-xi Gallery

Saturday October 18th marks the opening of two new shows at Bau-xi Gallery. Brent Boechler's Beam and Virginia Mak's Character Reference.

Brent's latest series grew out of  "a desire to isolate and solidify certain aspects of composition that have become inherent to my work over the last few years".  Brent likens his method of work to something "that resembled collage (albeit collaging with paint), but was in a sense a kind of reductive collage - an almost reverse way of working." Here at South Granville Inhabiter, we've been fans for a while and we like this departure.

Virgina Mak's Character Reference series consists of portraits drawn from figures in literature, folklore and mythology. Known for its soft focus and minimized light values, her work disrupts the boundary between painting and photography. We are loving the ethereal nature of this work.
