A night in the Hyatt ballroom for the 15th Annual Rockin’ for Research Gala benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
We all know that after a glass of bubbly or two things can get a little wild – throw in a Venetian Masquerade theme and a good charitable cause…. Then you really have something to write home about.
This was my first year attending Rockin’ for Research, an annual over-the-top gala that benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the auctioneer did not miss a beat, as Rockin’ for Research raised $1.2 million to further propel research into Type 1 Diabetes.
Among some of the incredible auction items; an evening with Chef Quang Dang (of South Granville’s own WEST), gorgeous art work by Vancouver's Ross Penhall and of course there were also diamond earrings, Hawaiian vacations and spa trips up the yin-yang… all funds raised for important research. Seeing this crowd passionate for a cause was moving, no matter what your connection is to Type 1 Diabetes.
My involvement in the event was as Chandelier Sponsor though my business RENEW Gallery – we specialize in one of a kind luxury antique lighting (shameless plugging, no apologies) and boy was it a feat to prepare, load and transport ten one-of-a-kind chandeliers to the event and into the Hyatt ballroom and then take them down in a window of time that would be generous to call ‘tight’. Thanks to my dedicated staff and the team at Rockin’ for Research – we did it. The lights looked stunning. I was so excited to see them outside of our showroom - to see their illumination above the black ties and gowns.
Somewhere between all the craziness, yours truly even got to squeeze into to a hot-to-trot cocktail dress, round up some rowdy pals/inhabiters and clink a few glasses of bubbly – with a mandatory stop at Bacchus on the way home to enjoy some live piano… hey, we were dressed to the nines and felt like showing off a little.
