In Their Habitat: Michael Wells

Meet Michael Wells of Mr. Hobbs Barber Shop. Michael started his barber training when he was 15 years old, in London, England and has brought that experience and more to his new space in the South Granville neighbourhood. A delightful mix of old world meets new from his vintage barber chairs, hot towel machine and dart board, to the very logo on the shop window showing a typical English gentleman walking his dog.

The shop is actually named after Michael's dog Hobbs whose picture is in a place of honour on the wall as you enter. Like a more elegant "man cave" there is a comfortable and welcoming personal style evident in the framed sailors knots (he's also an avid sailor), various photos and a remarkable model ship, Captain Cook's HMS Endeavour which took Michael six months to build.

So drop on by! The big screen "telly" is on and chances are there's a match, soccer to you folks here. Don't worry if there's a line-up, just put your name on the chalk board and have a seat. In the meantime as you wait, ask him about his model ship...or have a game of darts!

I'm a Barber - I  own and operate Mr. Hobbs Barber Shop on Granville Street, between 14th and 15th Avenues.

I opened the shop 10 months ago because I thought the South Granville area needed a new Barber Shop vibe.
